The following list is in a constant state of development.  As we explore further afield and become more familiar with these and other birding locations in and around the South Burnett we will add further sites.  If you have any  sites you consider worth including , or you disagree with any of our ratings, please email. 

As we become more familiar with the selected sites each will be allotted a BIRDABILITY rating as follows:

Archookoora State Forest Kingaroy  
Bert Button Lookout Cherbourg From Cherbourg follow signs to Emu Park.  Parkland habitat.   

Boat Mountain & Jack Smith Scrub

Murgon 5km west of Murgon along Gayndah/Murgon road.  Right at Tableland Road and follow signs.  Remnant vine scrub, dry rainforest, open eucalypt woodland
Boondooma Dam Proston Large dam, limited access except by boat.  Caravan & Camping site, popular with fishermen.
Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Yarraman to Blackbutt Various access points
Bunya Mts National Park Bunya Mountains Danabah. 65km from Kingaroy, 55km from Nanango     Predominantly Hoop Pine along with some Brigalow scrub, dry rainforest, grassland "balds" and remnant vine thickets.
Carrol Nature Reserve Kingaroy Corner Fisher & Coral Streets.  Softwood vine scrub.
Din Din State Forest Nanango  
East Nanango State Forest Nanango  
EH Duncan Park  Nanango Take Mount Stanley Road from Nanango, right turn onto East Nanango Road.  The park is on the right but now overgrown.
Gibson State Forest Tarraman Off Gardiner Road.  Hoop Pine with some eucalypt woodland fringes and rainforest.
Gordonbrook Dam Memerambi 12km west of Kingaroy on Bunya Highway.  Turn onto Recreation Drive at Memerambi. Water storage area with open eucalypt woodland on one side and grasslandson the other. Bird Hide erected recently.
Harland Park Yarraman Park is on  Cooyer Creek bridge crossing.  Creek with open woodland surrounds and hills.

 

 

 

 

Lake Barambah               [Bjelke-Petersen Dam] Murgon Large water storage area.  Several access points other than main Caravan Park.
Lake Boondooma Proston From Proston follow signs to dam along Lake Boondooma Road. Water storage area surrounded by grasslands.
Mt Binga Cooyar  
Mt Marbletop Nanango  
Mt Wooroolin Kingaroy Drive west along Haly Street and follow signs. Eucalypt and vine scrub remnants.
Mudlo Conservation Park Kilkivan At Kilkivan take James Street, follow north for 6km .  Hoop and Bunya Pines with open eucalypt woodland at lower levels.
Nanango Fauna Reserve Nanango  
Nanango Sewage Treatment Plant Nanango Drive along Grey Street, turn right.  Park at fence.  Wetlands surrounded by open grasslands and some eucalypt trees.
Pidna State Forest Yarraman  
Pioneer Park Nanango Along Drayton Street, a little further and on opposite side of road from Council Chambers and Library.
Reinke Scrub Proston Drive 2km past State School.   Bottletree scrub.
South Nanango State Forest Nanango  
Swinging Bridge Park Cooyar Drive past hotel and follow road around to park. Creek and camp/picnic area.
Tarong National Park Nanango Along Old Yarraman Road, off Nanango/Maidenwell Road.
Tarong State Forest Nanango Entance off Nanango/Maidenwell Road
"The Chimney" Kilkivan Drive 11km east of Kilkivan on Rossmore Road. Open grasslands, remnant vine scrub.
The Palms National Park Cooyer Follow signs.  Palm groves surrounded by woodland.
Walking Tracks Nanango 1.8 & 1.7 from corner of D.Aguilar Highway and Maidenwell Roads.
Wooroolin Wetlands Wooroolin Opposite shops, follow signs. Wetland swamp surrounded by eucalypt , Blue Gum, woodlands.
Yarraman Creek Walks via Yarraman Entrance off New England Highway near Sporting Reserve.  Creek, open grassland and woodlands.
Yarraman State Forest  Yarraman Continue on D'Aguilar Highway west out of Yarraman for about 2km.  Pine woodland with some remnant vine scrub. Legendary spot for Black-breasted Button-quail.
